Halloween Party 2013 Review

BOO! Chill here. Today I'll be reviewing none other than the Halloween Party 2013. Players who are veterans, or players who just started playing, all know about the Halloween Party. It started in 2005, and was Club Penguin's first party after beta testing, happening every year since.
In 2007, the first Candy Hunt happened, which continued until 2010. In 2008, Gary made his first ever visit as a mascot, which continued until this year, and we also got the Secret Lab as a party room, which continued until 2011, with a brief absence in 2010. In 2009, the Haunted House appeared, which continued until 2011. In 2010, we got the Dark Chamber, which returned in 2011 as well. In 2012, we got the epic quest through Gariwald's Mansion.
But what new and exciting features will haunt this particular ghoulish outing? It's time to dive into the scariest few weeks of the year and find out what skeletons in the closet this party is hiding!
Okay I'll stop with all the Halloween puns and references. (Well, maybe not) TO THE REVIEW!
Features
Unlike previous Halloween Parties, which gave us epic quests, scavenger hunts, party rooms to explore, and free items galore, this party is bare bones. (Get it? Bare bones? Cuz skeletons? Oh forget it...) We got Rookie as a mascot, the first Halloween Party where Gary hasn't paid us a visit since he first became a mascot in 2008. Oh well, change is nice - I guess.
Unlike the 2012 party which focused more on real spooks, the 2013 goes back to the emphasis on trick or treating and dressing up with costumes. In fact, trick or treating IS the main feature of this party. Visiting jack o' lanterns around the island and in igloos, you can win candies and transformations. With candies you can purchase items from the special party catalog. You'll also on occasion earn Zombie Zingers, Full-Moon Fireballs, and Fang Fudgies. When consumed they activate the transformations for this party: the zombie, the werewolf, and the vampire. What's interesting about these transformations is that there are three different versions of each transformation, with different waving actions, allowing for a total of 9 different transformations. However, the transformations make noise. Back in 2012 the ghost screams were really annoying - now you have a combination of zombie moans, werewolf howls, and bat noises. Out of all the transformations, I think the werewolves are my favorite. I like dogs (a LOT) and the werewolves act a lot like the pups. Well, evil monstrous transformed sharp-toothed pups, but still.
Score: 4/5
Decorations
Yet again, Club Penguin amazes me. The Halloween Party brought back several old designs, such as the Iceberg, Lighthouse, Cave, Ski Lodge, Night Club, and others. However my favorite room here is probably the Night Club - it's the old design! To be honest I like the old design way better than the current design of the Night Club. The new designs, such as the Beach, Mine Shack, School, Town, and Plaza are also very cool.
Score: 5/5
Items
Unfortunately, just like the prior Medieval Party, the items at this party are very weak and there's not many good ones. The Wrapper Head, which can be earned by collecting all of the cursed candies and their variations, is very weird on the player card and on your penguin. Rookie's background is good, though. As for the catalog, the non-member free items are nice, but not that great. As for member items, 2012's cat costume returns, which I like, and the creepy doll costume, which is SO CREEPY. I'm not kidding. That thing freaks me out. New costumes are the swamp monster (meh), the vampire (which is good) and the tomb king, which reminds me of Plants vs. Zombies 2. There's also a free Pumpkin Lid Puffle Hat for members. Hopefully we'll get even more Puffle Hats as time goes on.
Score: 3/5
Music
Music is superb as always. Songs like What Lurks In The Night, and classics like Seek and Hide, and newer tunes like Dare To Enter The Mansion do the party justice. There's also a cool organ song at the Mine Shack. Unfortunately the classic Halloween Party song (I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about) is absent at this particular spooky celebration. A lot of rooms are missing music altogether, such as the Lodge Attic.
Score: 4/5
Non-Member Friendliness
Okay, the party's pretty great. But how is it for non-members? Well considering there's no party rooms this time around, there's no rooms for members only. Non-members can only get 5 of the 19 items at this party, which is actually pretty decent. Not as good as some previous parties, like the Teen Beach Movie Summer Jam, though.
Score: 4/5
Final Thoughts
Club Penguin could've done a lot better here. While the party is nice, it's not very "epic". Where's the party rooms? Epic quests? Candy hunt? There's just so much that's not there.
Final Score: 4/5

What did you guys think of the Halloween Party? Was it better, or so worse than the previous Halloween Parties that it's scary?

Chill is out, peace!
