Goodbye Club Penguin

So, this is it. After over 11 years, Club Penguin is coming to a close. I decided since this is the end, it's a good time to make one last post on this blog and give it some closure and go over my experiences with the game and what it meant to me.

As cheesy as it sounds, this game has changed my life. I first heard about it at Thanksgiving 2008 when my cousin told me about it. The next month, I joined Club Penguin. And it was awesome.

I've met hundreds of people while playing this game and made tons of good friends, some I still talk to today, others who have sadly moved on and I have no way of contacting again. In June 2011, while looking at other Disney virtual games (something I probably wouldn't have done if I wasn't playing Club Penguin) I joined ToonTown. A few years later, as Club Penguin is about to do, the game closed, but gave me friends who I still talk to.

Mario. Pokemon. DC Comics. Marvel. Gravity Falls. Steven Universe.  These are just a few things that I really enjoy today that I may not have ever been interested in had I never had my experiences in the past 8 years with this game.

I had a good time with this game. The first three years I played, 2009-2011, were amazing. By 2013, the game had been slowly going downhill for a year, but I still logged on to see what was new. It wasn't until the last Holiday Party (which as we now know really was the last Holiday Party) that my membership ran out and I decided that this was it. I was barely even interested in the game anymore and only logged on every week just so I wouldn't miss anything. That slowly turned into every two weeks, and then once a month as Club Penguin started updating less and less. Then, a month later, the game was closing.

So, that brings us to today. Club Penguin is closing at midnight and Club Penguin Island will soon attempt to replace it. This is the end of Chill's Club Penguin Opinions. I don't intend on playing Club Penguin Island, and even if I did, I'd just be posting lots of angry rants here probably.

I'd like to thank everyone who, directly or indirectly, made my experience with this game a great one and helped shape my life. I'd also like to thank all my readers over the years who put up with all my ramblings.

Chill is out, peace.

Waddle on everybody.

Festival of Snow 2015 Review

Hey guys! Chill here. Wow, it's been a while. Sorry I haven't posted in... almost a year, but I'm back! And to kick things off we'll start with my favorite 2015 party/event, the Festival of Snow.

Who knew that after all these years Club Penguin would bring back the classic Festival of Snow? I guess they have been listening to their fans after all!

Like most classic parties or the more modern events, there's really no party features. Just simple stuff, check out the decorations, and pick up a few items.

The decorations themselves are pretty much what you would expect from a Festival of Snow. Nothing too grand, just snow sculptures designed by the users, and a few other decorations here and there. While most of the snow sculptures are pretty well made, some of them are kind of bad.
For items, the classic Ice Crown and Snowflake T-Shirt from the first ever Festival of Snow make a comeback. This is awesome because it gives newer users a chance to get these items. While some may complain about how they're not rare anymore, I think the appearance of the item is more important than how long ago it was released. Also, they're finally in boxes again instead of an interface! How cool is that?

The only thing I really don't like about this party is the music. It just feels a little too Frozen for me. I think it would've been cooler if they brought back some of the older songs.

Looking at this party, I can't help but feel that it was made specifically for the older players who stuck around through all of the garbage CP has put out in recent years. This party could've easily happened in 2007 or 2009, because, well, it did.

Score: 4.5/5

What did you think about the Festival of Snow? Are you glad it's back? Were you around for the original in 2007, or the one in 2009? If so, how do you think it compares to those?

Chill is out, peace!

Rookie the Director

Hey guys! Chill here. Today, I have an interesting theory about Rookie, and that I think he will become the Director.

First of all, this was actually foreshadowed during the Future Party. When Gary 3000 was asked if Rookie was the Director in 4014, he replied with - "Oh that must come later That was a curious day! He almost blew up the Stage... but his pet rock saved the day"

However, most people would probably have overlooked this as something that happens in the super-duper-distant future, like in a few hundred years or so.

But today in the newspaper, Aunt Arctic got two questions asking whether she was the Director or not, and then left this message hidden for EPF agents:

The "Propeller Protocol" most likely refers to making Rookie the Director, as Gary 3000 himself hinted at. And why would it be in his scripts if it wouldn't be relevant? Hmm...

What do you think? Will Rookie become the Director sometime around the inevitable EPF operation coming soon? Or does it mean something else? Only time will tell!

2014 Events Review

Since I'm a little late on this, I'll be reviewing all of the events we've had so far this year in one post: Welcome Russia, Funny Hat Week, Penguin Prom, and Turbo Race 3000.

Welcome Russia

The decorations at Welcome Russia were pretty much what you would expect from a mini-party about, well, Russia. We got a nice item too, although it was one of those weird ones that looks good until you actually put it on your penguin and it looks ugly. So yeah, it was a decent event, but not the greatest. Score: 3/5
Now HERE'S what we wanted! The party's decorations were pretty cool, kind of similar to the classic parties where the rooms were actually decorated instead of "transformed". The items were all pretty cool, my favorite being The Donut Conquerer as it reminded me of an old friend. The music is a cool tune that's a nice throwback to the first ever Music Jam. It's kind of funny, because I considered Funny Hat Week better than all the parties before it that year! Score: 5/5

The Penguin Prom, while I wasn't looking forward to it at first really, turned out to be a pretty awesome event! Unlike most other events, three rooms were decorated for the event: the School,
Mine Shack, and Stadium. While the Stadium's decorations were very minor, the School and Mine Shack had really nice decorations. As far as items go, I found it really weird how you got a graduation cap, but no gown, and I know others did too. The background is nice too. The music in the School is awesome, being an instrumental medley of The Party Starts Now, Gotta Have A Wingman, Ghosts Just Wanna Dance, Cool in the Cold, and Anchors Aweigh. What's not to like? Score: 5/5

The Turbo Race 3000, while cool in theory, was kind of a flop. The actual "racing" was very flawed, as you couldn't race with other users and it only activated based on what you did, so it didn't make much of an actual race. The decorations felt kind of cramped, although it was nice to see the Stadium's old design again after the Penguin Cup. The items were pretty nice, although the helmet feels incomplete without the actual suit, so non-members kind of got a bad deal there. The song is pretty nice and sounds like something you might hear in a slower-paced racing video game. Score: 3/5

Music Jam 2014 Review

Hey guys! Chill here. Today I'll be reviewing the... Music Jam this year... oh brother.
First stop, the features. Or, lack thereof. SoundStudio aside, the only real features are watching the performances of Cadence and the Band, Violetta (WHY?!?!?!), Cole Plante, Sabrina, and Zendaya. The only performance I could sit through the whole way was Best Day Ever, and all the others bothered me, especially Violetta (again, WHY?!?!?!?). While Cole Plante's remix of Gotta Have A Wingman was pretty nice at first, Stompin' Bob's messed-up voice ruined the entire song. Meanwhile, it seems Sabrina's song (Can't Blame A Girl For Trying) was aimed purely at the female audience, while all the others were gender-neutral. Except Violetta's. I don't know what that one was about. In terms of mascots, as you'd expect Cadence and the Penguin Band are back. THANK YOU! It's been way too long since we've seen the Band.

Decorations are mostly where the party falls flat on its face. While previous Music Jams have been known for being island-wide celebrations, this one consists of two decorated rooms on the island and six party rooms. The Dock (pictured) is nice I suppose, but the Town is merely recycled from the Teen Beach Movie Summer Jam, meaning they couldn't even take time to create a new look for the Town. Aye aye aye... The party rooms are the Music Cruise, which, although the designs are decent, really don't stick out and aren't memorable like past Music Jams have been.

So, the Music Jam gets back up on its feet after the decorations mishap... and falls flat on its face again with items. There were VERY few items and not a single catalog, unlike previous parties. All but one of the items are presented in the "come back tomorrow to get this item!" format, which is really annoying. While some of them are decent like the Beat Dropper Hat, most of them are pretty garbage. Also, it seems like a lot of them are directed at girls only, such as the Urban Diva Outfit or Here Comes Treble. Also, CP thought it would be a good idea to put the Miner's Helmet as a free item for some reason, even though pretty much EVERY penguin has it and it's available all the time. While the special guest backgrounds are nice, nobody will really care about them. How many people do you honestly see wearing Rocky and Cece's background nowadays, or Brady and McKenzie's, or Kermit's? While they ARE rare, they won't really have much value. And for some reason, a lot of the signatures are cut off by the player card...

And lastly, the music. As we all know, music IS the biggest part of the MUSIC Jam, right? RIGHT?

...well, uh, no, apparently.

Besides the performances, there are only four songs at this party, each used in only one room, and the rest are all ambience. That's right folks, at the MUSIC Jam, only HALF of the rooms actually have MUSIC! The few tracks that are actually used are pretty decent at least. As for the performances themselves, I already went over them in the features section, so I won't talk about them here.

And you know your party is bad when the best thing is non-member friendliness. Non-members can watch all the performances and get almost every item at the party, with a few exceptions. (Although most of the items they can't get are terrible imo)

All in all, the Music Jam was a terrible departure from a once beloved party. Even the Ultimate Jam was way better! At this point, do we really want to have CP attempt another Music Jam?

Score: 1/5

My Thoughts on the Sasquatch

Hey guys! Chill here. Most of you probably already know about the brand new mascot, appropriately named by fans the Sasquatch.

I REALLY like this guy a lot. He's just so mysterious. Nothing has been heard of it, and then suddenly it pops up in the files and a few days later it's a mascot, merely named ??????. I'm very excited to see what Club Penguin will do with this character in the future, it seems very promising.

Aunt Arctic, you've got a big article to write!

Is the Music Jam Ruined For Good?

Hey guys! Chill here. Today I have a sort-of-kind-of rant for you guys, for the first time in forever a while.

The Music Jam has been one of my favorite parties on Club Penguin since I experienced it for the first time in 2009. I looked forward to it every year, until it was seemingly "replaced" by the Ultimate Jam in 2012, technically being a Shake It Up takeover. This was pretty bad, as it combined the classic Music Jam with a bunch of new stuff, creating a giant mess.

The next year, we got the Summer Jam, another "takeover" for Teen Beach Movie. It was pretty good, and I considered it one of the two best parties that year (although to be fair the parties that year weren't really good in the first place). I assumed the Music Jam was gone for good...

But then, this year, the REAL Music Jam was announced to finally be returning! And... we got special guests.

Oh gosh.

But hey, how bad could it POSSIBLY have been? VERY, VERY BAD. The party itself was complete garbage (I won't go into detail here, stick around for my Music Jam 2014 review in a little while), and all the guests just felt so... out of place. Sabrina singing about girls having relationships? Violetta singing about... uh... something not in English?

Honestly it just feels like it's IMPOSSIBLE for CP to do a Music Jam anymore without feeling the need to get Disney Channel involved. The Music Jam was fantastic before, why did they have to change it? I don't mean to sound like a whiny kid who hates change, but they could've just kept going with the regular Music Jam and everything would've been fine; at least we probably wouldn't have the abomination that was this year's Music Jam.

Chill is out, peace!
